The geriatric care manager is a
medical professional that can
help cut through the red tape
that is so often involved
in the health care
system. The geriatric care
manager can help ensure that
rights of the older adult and
family members rights are being
upheld at all times. The health
care system has state and
federal regulations to help
assure the older adult has rights
and that their rights are upheld.
In medical facilities these
may be called
"Residents
Rights" . They should be
posted in plain site. If for
any reason these rights are not
followed, there are procedures in
place to file complaints.
The
geriatric care manager is in the
unique position to help the
older adult and family to get the
right information to the right
people, so that changes can be
made. The geriatric care
manager will work with the older
adult and family to make sure
that contracted services are
consistent with the older
adult's needs.
Continuity
in care can make a world of
difference for the older adult
and the family. Sometimes
concerns can be handled within
the facility. The geriatric care
manager can be the liaison
between the older adult, the
family and the facility or
agency providing services. This
can take some of the pressure off
the family so that they can
concentrate on the needs of their
loved one.
