Geriatric Care Managers Working with Trust Officers

The Geriatric Care Managers documentation is valuable evidence for the need for expenditure of funds by the trust officer. Geriatric Care Managers are efficient, competent unbiased and professional at managing client or customer care needs. Geriatric Care Managers help the older adult stay in their home as long as possible but if a different setting is needed they evaluate all the resources available and help match the older adults needs to the most appropriate facility as cost effectively as possible. It is not unusual for service - oriented professionals such as trust officers, to become personally close to their clients and emotionally involved which can make it very difficult to make medically necessary decisions. Geriatric Care Manager can help make the medical decisions that best meet the care needs of the older adult. The older adults care needs are always changing as acute and chronic conditions change, therefore the Geriatric Care Manager becomes a part of the team to ensure early intervention and prevention. The trust officer is the professional who can manage the finances but the Geriatric Care Manager is the professional who can manage the personal care needs.

Geriatric Care Managers are be a great asset to trust officers especially if the trust officer is acting on the part of the trustee doing personal administrative services when family is not willing or available to assist. Most department heads of personal trust services in the banks feel trust officers should not be making personal care need decisions for their clients. However if there is no family available or willing to help that is what a trust officer is being asked to do. Trust officers are not specialized in this area but Geriatric Care Managers are and can become a part of the team to ensure clients needs are met as cost effectively as possible.

The Geriatric Care Managers role is not to take away from the relationship between the Trust Officer and the trustee but to enhance it. They help the financial manager do what they do best and Geriatric Care Managers do what we do best. Trust departments that use Geriatric Care Managers announce loud and clear that they care about their customers, trust departments that use Geriatric Care services also announce to their officers that they care about efficiency, about covering their bases legally, and about their obligation to provide for care, support and maintenance of their customers not to mention relieving the stress a trust officer may feel making personal care needs decisions for their customer. After all care support and maintenance is what geriatric Care Managers do best.
